  • 34th Ave remains closed from Hwy 14 Bypass south to Bel Brands.

Project Update October 18, 2024:

  • Work for the next two weeks will include subgrade preparation, base course work, and concrete work.
  • 34th Ave remains closed from Hwy 14 Bypass south to Bel Brands.

Tuesday, September 24, 34th Ave will close from Hwy 14 Bypass south to Bel Brands for utility installation.

  • The segment between Cooks Recycling and Bel Brands will reopen with a temporary gravel surface.
  • All traffic on 34th Ave must come from the south.

Project Update September 3, 2024:

  •  34th Ave will reopen from 6th St to Cooks Recycling. Access to Cooks Recycling and Rounds Construction will now change, with entry available from the south. All turning movements at the 6th St/34th Ave intersection will return to normal.
  • Please note, there may still be workers and equipment in the area for cleanup in the days following the reopening.
  • At the same time, 34th Ave will close from Cooks Recycling to Bel Brands. Access to Bel Brands will remain available from the north. A signed detour is in place on 32nd Ave to guide traffic.

Project Update August 16, 2024:

  •  The contractor is continuing to work on base course installation on 34th Ave between 6th St and Cooks Recycling.
  • The concrete contractor will start curb and gutter work and driveways.

Project Update July 26, 2024:

  • 34th Ave south of 6th St is now open for traffic with northbound left turns onto 6th St restricted. North of 6th St, utility installation is complete up to Cooks Recycling, and the Contractor is working on subgrade preparation.

Project Update July 11, 2024:

  • The contractor is working on watermain installation near the Dakotah Bank Center, moving north.
  • The Contractor will continue working on asphalt paving south of 6th St.
  • Work will continue on road subgrade preparation north of 6th St near the Dakotah Bank Center.

Project Update July 3, 2024:

Construction is ongoing on 34th Ave directly east of the Dacotah Bank Center. If attending the Uncle Sam Jam Festival or the fireworks show, community members must enter the Dacotah Bank Center’s parking lot from 32nd Ave.

34th Ave (from 6th St to Cooks Recycling) is closed to all traffic. No access is available to the Dacotah Bank Center from 34th Ave. The Dacotah Bank Center is fully accessible from the detour route on 32nd Avenue. 32nd Avenue will take commuters north to the Hwy 14 Bypass or directly south to 6th St.

The community is asked to plan ahead for parking and driving in this area of the city during these events and to anticipate accessing the 32nd Ave detour to and from the Dacotah Bank Center.

Project Update June 20, 2024:

The Contractor is working on watermain and sanitary sewer installation near the Dakotah Bank Center and moving towards the north. Other activities include removals from the Dakotah Bank Center to Cooks Recycling, and base course, curb and gutter, and asphalt paving on 34th Ave south of 6th St. In the next two weeks, we anticipate the Contractor finishing work south of 6th St and continuing north with water and sanitary sewer project work.

Project Update May 31, 2024:

The Contractor is working on watermain and sanitary sewer installation on 34th Ave on both sides of the 6th Street/US 14 intersection. North and south turning movements remain restricted at 6th Street and will remain so for an extended period of time.

  • Please continue to observe the signed detour.

What to expect in 2024:

  • Construction starting just south of 6th St, moving north to the Hwy 14 Bypass.
  • This segment of 34th Ave will be closed to traffic.
  • 6th St / Hwy 14 will be open for east- and westbound traffic throughout construction.

Changes and disruptions in the project area:

  • Temporary mailboxes will be used.
  • Temporary garbage collection locations will be used.
  • Disruptions to water and sewer may occur. Door tags will be distributed in advance to let residents in the project area know when disruptions are anticipated.
  • Private property should not be affected. Boulevards alongside the project area will likely be disturbed and later restored.

Completed in 2023:

  • Watermain and sanitary sewer main installation along 34th Ave S from Prince Dr to just south of 6th St.
  • 34th Ave S reconstruction.
