Project Update October 18, 2024
Asphalt and concrete work have now been substantially completed on all segments of the 2024 Brookings Concrete and Overlay project. The Contractor may be in the area for final items and clean up. Please be aware of workers and equipment.
Project Update September 23, 2024
UPDATE: Work on 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 (3rd St to 4th St) to start the week of September 23rd (weather permitting)
Work will include:
- Removal and replacement of the roadway surface.
- There will be times when work may limit access to homes, though a majority of the time access will be provided.
- Parking will be prohibited as posted during the duration of the project.
- Project expected to last approximately 2 weeks.
- Disruption to trash and mail service may occur but will be limited.
Project Update September 13, 2024
Work on Wahpeton Pass to start the week of September 16th
· Work will include:
· Remove and replace curb and gutter as needed.
· Removal and replacement of the roadway surface.
· There will be times when work may limit access to homes though a majority of time access will be provided.
· Project expected to last approximately 4 weeks.
· Disruption to trash and mail service may occur but will be limited.
Project Update August 16, 2024
Segments of the 2024 Brookings Concrete and Overlay project are scheduled to be completed through the early fall. Below is a list of tentative date ranges to expect the remaining segments to be completed. More detailed information will be available as the construction timeframes draw closer.
- 7th Street from Campanile Avenue to Jackrabbit Avenue | Under Construction with anticipated opening Mid-September
- Wahpeton Pass | Early September through Early October
- 3rd Avenue at 11th Street | Late September through Early October
- 14th Avenue from 3rd Street to 4th Street | Early September through Late September
- Brookings Landfill | Late September through Early October
Project Update August 10, 2024
8th St & 1st Ave Intersection Reconstruction
The Contractor is scheduled to begin work at the intersection of 8th St and 1st Ave portion of the 2024 Overlay project starting on Monday, August 12, 2024.
This project will involve the reconstruction of this intersection to address roadway and utility concerns. Items such as the deep valley gutters on the 1st Street approaches shall be addressed. Work shall include the following:
- Removal of ramps, curb and gutter, and roadway at this intersection.
- Replacement of two sanitary sewer manholes.
- New sidewalk ramps, fillets, curb and gutter, roadway surface, and boulevard repairs.
- Project will last approximately 6 weeks, weather permitting.
- During this time, this intersection will be closed to through traffic. (see road closure map)
- Residents within this area will have access to their homes though there may be delays at times.
We request that residents accommodate the collection of trash and recycling in accordance with the attached diagram.
- The south side of 8th St between Henry Ave and 2nd Ave should place their barrels in the alley.
- The north side of 8th St between Henry Ave and 2nd Ave, and on 1st Ave can place their barrels at the street.
- Recycling and trash pickup dates will stay the same.
- 123 8th St W will need to bring their trash to Henry Ave.
Project Update June 7, 2024
Construction of the 7th Street segment of this project will begin on Monday, June 10, 2024.
7th Street will be closed to thru traffic and access will be limited from Campanile Avenue to Jackrabbit Avenue.
- During construction, access from 7th Street to homes along 7th Street between Campanile Avenue and Jackrabbit Avenue will be closed. Residents in this area are asked to park on adjacent streets where parking is allowed.
- Residents are asked to bring their trash, recycling, and yard waste receptacles to the locations shown in the map.
It is estimated the overall project will last approximately 8 to 9 weeks, weather permitting. During the course of the project, service may be disrupted in addition to the items listed above.
Changes and disruptions in the project area:
- The highlighted areas on the map above will be closed in segments. Detour routes will be posted whenever possible: due to multiple variables as the work progresses, detour routes may change faster than this page updates. The Contractor will attempt to provide ongoing guidance in the neighborhoods in which they are working.
- Temporary utility disruptions may occur in locations where utilities are being replaced. BMU will coordinate with landowners when disruptions are anticipated.
- Temporary mailboxes may be used for portions of this project.
- Temporary garbage collection locations may be used for portions of this project. Specific information on this will be provided as needed.
- Private property should not be affected. Boulevards alongside the project area may require minor grading work and will be reseeded after the project is finished.
- After the Contractor has arrived, homeowners should mark their lawn irrigation systems or inform the Contractor or Engineer of their locations, if known. The City will repair damaged sprinkler heads and lines upon completion of the project.
Overview
Project Description:
Various road surfaces throughout the city will be refinished. This project includes work on select sidewalk ramps and sidewalks.
BMU is also replacing sanitary sewer and water distribution utilities on portions of the project including 7th Street, 8th Street and 1st Avenue.
Why the Project:
This resurfacing project ensures roads around the community are regularly maintained. The City surveys the condition of every street in the community to determine which streets need to be resurfaced each year.
The City of Brookings coordinates with BMU their planned street improvement projects. If utility replacements are needed under planned street improvements, the City and BMU work together to combine their projects into one to minimize disruptions to homeowners and the travelling public.
Estimated Completion:
Completion varies by the roadway. All segments are planned for completion by November 2024.
