2026 Brookings Slurry Seal Projects

Project Details/Updates

Project Update | June 5, 2026 

Tomorrow, June 6, the City has scheduled the following streets to be slurried during the day:

  • Western Ave (6th St to the 14 Bypass)
  • 8th St S (Main Ave West to City Limits)
  • 12th St S (Main Ave to 22nd Ave)


Once sealed, the roads will reopen as soon as the surface sets, usually 1 to 2 hours. 


Please use caution when driving through these work areas.


Project Update | May 26, 2026

The City of Brookings is beginning its annual slurry seal/chip seal project starting Monday, June 1, 2026, weather permitting.


Schedule Details (tentative and weather permitting)

  • Medary Ave (6th St north to City Limits), Western Ave (6th St to Route 14 bypass), 22nd Ave (32nd St S to 20th St S), Sunrise Ridge/25th Ave (6th St to Wilbert Court): Work occurs at night 
  • All other areas: Work occurs during the day
  • Once sealed, roads will reopen as soon as the surface sets
  • Line painting will follow within two weeks of road reopening


What to Expect Moving Forward

Residents and visitors in the area should watch for temporary signs posted in the boulevards indicating “No Parking”.


What is Happenings?
Slurry seal is a protective street surface treatment designed to extend pavement life. This year’s application uses an improved formula to enhance durability. Work is expected to take approximately 6 working days.


Where is Work Taking Place? 

Please refer to the project map to see which streets are included. Streets will be temporarily closed during application.


Parking & Traffic Impact
• “No Parking” signs will be placed in advance—do not park in work zones when signs are posted.

• Follow posted signs and plan alternate routes if possible.

Overview

Project Description:

Various streets within the City of Brookings will be resurfaced with a slurry seal surface. 


Why the Project:

This slurry seal project is part of the City’s routine pavement maintenance program to preserve roadway surfaces and extend their service life. The City targets sealing approximately one-seventh of its streets each year as part of this ongoing effort.


Estimated Completion:

Completion varies by the roadway. All segments are planned for completion by September 2026.
