BROOKINGS UNIVERSITY BLVD & 22ND AVE

Project Details/Updates

Project Update: Aug 18, 2023

  • University Blvd is now open between Jackrabbit Ave and 22nd Ave. This project was completed on schedule.

Project Update: June 27, 2023

  • University Blvd is closed between Jackrabbit Ave and 22nd Ave. Access is being maintained to the Performing Arts Center.
  • University Blvd Phase 1 - Removals and asphalt mill are complete.
  • Sanitary Sewer installation in University Blvd should be complete by Friday 6/30.
  • Sanitary Sewer installation will continue in McCrory Gardens.
  • After pipe installation is complete in University Blvd, the Contractor will start subgrade prep.


Project Update: June 7, 2023

  • Starting Monday June 12, 2023, University Blvd will be closed for sanitary sewer construction from Jackrabbit Ave to 22nd Ave. 
  • A detour is planned on 22nd Ave, 6th St., and Jackrabbit Ave. (please see above map for detour route)
  • Access will be maintained to the SDSU Performing Arts Center.
  • The anticipated end of the road closure is Friday August 18, 2023.
  • Additional short-term road closures will be necessary and will be posted at a later date.


What to expect moving forward:

  • Construction is divided into two separate segments. 
  • The detour route uses 22nd Ave, 6th St, and Jackrabbit Ave. 
  • Another phase is planned for 2024. This page will be updated after completing the current phase. 


Changes and disruptions in the project area:

  • University Boulevard will be closed. Observe detour routes. 
  • No disruptions to services (mail, garbage, utilities, etc.) are planned at the moment. This is subject to change. 

Overview

Project Description:

A new 18"-diameter sanitary sewer pipe is being installed along University Boulevard. Another phase in 2024 will continue the sewer pipe north on 22nd Ave from University Blvd to Miller Pkwy (entrance to Research Park). 


Why the Project:

Growth in the area requires increased capacity for the sanitary sewer system. This project provides additional capacity and sets up future expansions if necessary. 


Estimated Completion:

Phase 1: Mid-late August 2023

Phase 2: Mid-late October 2023

Phases 3 and 4: September 2024
